HOW WE WILL ORGANIZE OURSELVES FOR THIS YEAR’S MASS INTENTIONS.

In the celebration of the Eucharist, we continuously unite to pray for the different needs of our community and the world. The blood of Christ, which has redeemed us, has the power to heal, save, convert, and work thousands of miracles in each celebration that is offered; so, when we pray in community, we can obtain great blessings for ourselves and for many people.
On occasions, when you do not have a correct formation in the sacraments, you can fall into errors that cause confused feelings and cause wounds among the members of the Community. That is why I want to share with you some lines that will help us avoid confusion and chaos.
1. Every Eucharist is in community. Expressions such as “my Mass”, “the Mass of my deceased”, “our Mass of celebration”, and other similar comments are not okay. Whoever expresses himself in this way runs the risk of feeling entitled to exclude others and that, instead of taking advantage of blessings, causes him a serious sin of selfishness for not sharing with others the blessings of the Eucharist with whom he also has the right to receive them. In this regard, the Diocese of San Angelo allows for every Eucharist to have two intentions and even a third in case of an urgent need.
2. There is no seniority right for intentions. It strikes me that some people demand certain intentions on the grounds that they have been requesting it for years without considering the needs that arise in a community that is renewing its participants and needs. Canon Law does not support any right of exclusivity or preference for seniority, rather it suggests always being open to the needs of the community in general.
3. The dates do not determine the effect of the intention offered. By this I mean that there will be times when the dates of the memory or family anniversary do not coincide exactly with the day on which the intention is celebrated. However, this does not affect the fruit of the Eucharist. This must be considered especially on birthdays, death anniversaries or family anniversaries. The same effect of the Sacrament is obtained if an intention is celebrated days before or after the memorable date.
4. Even if an intention is not mentioned, if it is offered personally, the effect is the same. Some people think that if the intention for which the Mass is offered is not mentioned, it is no longer valid. This is not the case, once the intention is established, it is offered, even if it is not expressed publicly. There are even times when, for various reasons, it is prudent to maintain discretion before the assembly.
5. We will offer the Solemnities for all the parishioners who participate in the mass, their needs, and intentions, as well as the intentions entrusted to them. This is because the Obligatory Masses that carry an obligation to participate imply the attendance of the entire parish community. Above all, when these Solemnities are during the week, it will be requested not for a particular intention, but for the intentions of all the participants, for all the needs they may have and for those who entrust themselves to their prayer. If someone wants to be a Sponsor of a Community Mass, let it be known in the parish office and let it be known if they want to be mentioned before the Community as a sponsor or want to reserve in anonymity.
6. The date to register intentions: Previously, intentions were registered without the Pastor giving a call. This year I have reserved that moment until I make it known publicly that it is time. Therefore, as of December 12, 2022, you can request that your intentions be added.
7. Be kind to the staff: Unfortunately, there are those who think that the donation or stipend given for an intention gives them the right to demand or mistreat the Staff when the desired date for an intention is not available. I invite everyone to be kind and understand that it is not the Staff’s fault that some dates are already reserved. I have asked the Staff to let me know if someone does not have the kind attitude when they goes to ask for their intention and I will take the appropriate measures to correct that behavior.
8. No intentions will be made “at a distance”. To avoid confusion and misunderstandings, I prefer that no intention be taken if someone does not request it personally. Therefore, you will not be able to request intentions that are requested by telephone or through a third person. Nor is it valid to leave the offering in cash or check with the receptionist assuming that by leaving it, the Staff is already forced to write your intention. This year, who will oversee the registry will be the secretary of the parish office, not the receptionist.
With these measures I do not intend to restrict, but to open the possibilities to more people in the Community of Holy Redeemer and Our Lady of San Juan regarding the intentions of the Mass. Below, I am writing the dates of the Holy Mass and other dates on which we will have intentions for the parish community. My blessing to all and greetings to their families.

CÓMO NOS ORGANIZAREMOS PARA LAS INTENCIONES DE MISA EN ESTE AÑO.

En la celebración de la Eucaristía nos unimos continuamente a orar por las diferentes necesidades de nuestra comunidad y del mundo. La sangre de Cristo, que nos ha redimido, tiene el poder de sanar, salvar, convertir y obrar miles de milagros en cada celebración que se ofrece; así que, cuando oramos en comunidad, podemos obtener grandes bendiciones para nosotros y para muchas personas.
En ocasiones, cuando no se tiene una formación correcta en los sacramentos se puede caer en errores que provocan sentimientos confusos y causan heridas entre los miembros de la Comunidad. Por ello quiero compartir con ustedes algunas líneas que nos ayudarán a evitar confusiones y caos.
1° Toda Eucaristía es comunitaria, no son correctas expresiones como “mi Misa”, “la Misa de mis difuntitos”, “nuestra Misa de festejo”, y otras parecidas. Quien se llega a expresar así corre el riesgo de excluir a otros y eso, en lugar d aprovecharle en bendiciones, le provoca un pecado grave de egoísmo por no compartir con los demás las bendiciones de la Eucaristía con quien también tiene derecho de recibirlas. Al respecto, la Diócesis de San Angelo permite tener en toda Eucaristía dos intenciones y hasta una tercera en caso de urgente necesidad.
2° No existe derecho de antigüedad para las intenciones. Me llama la atención que algunas personas exigen ciertas intenciones con el argumento de tener años solicitándolo sin mirar las necesidades que van surgiendo en una comunidad que se va renovando en participantes y en necesidades. Realmente el Derecho Canónico no respalda ningún derecho de exclusividad o preferencia por antigüedad, más bien sugiere siempre estar abiertos a las necesidades de la comunidad en general.
3° Las fechas no determinan el efecto de la intención ofrecida. Con esto quiero decir que habrá ocasiones en que no coincidan con exactitud las fechas de la memoria o aniversario familiar con el día en que se celebra la intención. Sin embargo, esto no afecta el fruto de esa Eucaristía. Hay que tomar en cuenta esto especialmente en los cumpleaños, aniversarios luctuosos o aniversarios familiares. El mismo efecto del Sacramento se obtiene si se celebra una intención días antes o después de la fecha memorable.
4° Aunque no se mencione una intención, si se ofrece de manera personal, el efecto es el mismo. Algunas personas piensan que si no se menciona la intención por la que se ofrece la Misa, ya no es válida. No es así, una vez que queda asentada la intención, ésta es ofrecida, aunque no se exprese de manera pública. Hay ocasiones incluso en que, por diversas cuestiones, es prudente mantener algunas intenciones en discreción ante la asamblea.
5° Las Solemnidades las ofreceremos por todos los parroquianos que participen, sus necesidades e intenciones, así como las intenciones que a ellos se encomienden. Esto es porque las Misas de Precepto que llevan obligación de participación implican la asistencia de toda la comunidad parroquial. Sobre todo, cuando estas Solemnidades sean entre semana, se pedirá no por una intención en particular, sino por las intenciones de todos los participantes, por todas las necesidades que puedan tener y por quienes se encomiendan a su oración. Si alguien quiere ser Patrocinador de alguna Misa Comunitaria, hágalo saber en la oficina parroquial y haga saber también si quiere ser mencionado ante la Comunidad como patrocinador o quiere reservarse en el anonimato.
6° La fecha para registrar intenciones: Anteriormente se registraban intenciones sin que el Pastor diera convocatoria. Este año he reservado ese momento hasta hacer saber públicamente cuándo iniciar. Por lo tanto, a partir del día 12 de diciembre de 2022 usted puede pedir que se agreguen sus intenciones.
7° Ser amables con el personal: Desafortunadamente hay quienes piensan que la donación o estipendio que se da por una intención les da derecho de exigir o maltratar al personal del Staff cuando no se tiene disponible la fecha que se desea para una intención. Invito a todos a ser amables y comprender que el Staff no tiene la culpa de que algunas fechas estén ocupadas. He pedido al personal del Staff que me haga saber si alguna persona no tiene la actitud amable cuando va a escribir su intención y tomaré las medidas pertinentes para corregir ese comportamiento.
8° No se escribirán intenciones “a distancia”. Para evitar confusiones y malentendidos, prefiero no tomar intención alguna si alguien no lo solicita personalmente. Por tanto, no podrán escribirse intenciones que se soliciten vía telefónica o a través de una tercera persona. Tampoco es válido dejar la ofrenda en cash o cheque con la recepcionista suponiendo que, por el hecho de dejarlo, ya se obliga al Staff a escribir su intención. Este año, quien estará a cargo del registro será la secretaria de la oficina y no la recepcionista.
Con estas medidas no pretendo restringir, sino abrir las posibilidades a más personas en la Comunidad de Holy Redeemer y Our Lady of San Juan respecto a las intenciones de la Misa. A continuación, escribo las fechas de Misa de precepto y otras fechas en que tendremos intenciones por la comunidad parroquial. Mi bendición para todos y un saludo a sus familias.
