Infant Baptism

Newborns – 6 year olds

In order to baptize at Holy Redeemer, the parents of the child should be registered members of Holy Redeemer, or live within the boundaries of the parish. If you are not a registered parishioner, but wish to Baptize here please obtain a letter of permission from your Parish. Parents, please come to the office to schedule your child’s baptism.

Please present the following documents:

  • the baby’s birth certificate, from the county
  • the godparents’ confirmation certificates
  • if the godparents are married, a copy of their church marriage certificate
  • proof of baptism prep classes from parents and godparents​

CALL THE PARISH OFFICE TO SCHEDULE BAPTISMS.

THERE ARE NO INFANT BAPTISMS OR BAPTISMAL CLASSES DURING THE LENTEN SEASON.

If the child has already turned 7 years of age please inquire about OCIA with the Catholic Education Center (432)337-2084.

Baptism Classes

If the parents or godparents haven’t taken the classes we offer the classes monthly.

Our classes are now offered the Second Sunday (2pm-4pm) and the Second Tuesday (7pm-9pm) of every month in both languages of English and Spanish. You have the option to choose between the two dates offered, as long as you let us know which date you would like to attend. To register please visit the parish office with the documents required (listed above). All registrations must be done at least one week in advance to the classes. Ten Things About Baptism You Should Know:

(From the Catechism of the Catholic Church, numbers 1275 to 1284)

1275 Christian initiation is accomplished by three sacraments together: Baptism which is the beginning of new life; Confirmation which is its strengthening; and the Eucharist which nourishes the disciple with Christ’s Body and Blood for his transformation in Christ.

1276 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Mt 28:19-20).

1277 Baptism is birth into the new life in Christ. In accordance with the Lord’s will, it is necessary for salvation, as is the Church herself, which we enter by Baptism.

1278 The essential rite of Baptism consists in immersing the candidate in water or pouring water on his head, while pronouncing the invocation of the Most Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

1279 The fruit of Baptism, or baptismal grace, is a rich reality that includes forgiveness of original sin and all personal sins, birth into the new life by which man becomes an adoptive son of the Father, a member of Christ and a temple of the Holy Spirit. By this very fact the person baptized is incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ, and made a sharer in the priesthood of Christ.

1280 Baptism imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual sign, the character, which consecrates the baptized person for Christian worship. Because of the character Baptism cannot be repeated (cf. DS 1609 and DS 1624).

1281 Those who die for the faith, those who are catechumens, and all those who, without knowing of the Church but acting under the inspiration of grace, seek God sincerely and strive to fulfill his will, are saved even if they have not been baptized (cf. LG 16).

1282 Since the earliest times, Baptism has been administered to children, for it is a grace and a gift of God that does not presuppose any human merit; children are baptized in the faith of the Church. Entry into Christian life gives access to true freedom.

1283 With respect to children who have died without Baptism, the liturgy of the Church invites us to trust in God’s mercy and to pray for their salvation.

1284 In case of necessity (emergency), any person can baptize provided that he have the intention of doing that which the Church does and provided that he pours water on the candidate’s head while saying: “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

Bautismo infantil

Recién nacidos hasta los niños de 6 años

Para bautizar en Holy Redeemer, los padres del niño deben ser miembros registrados de Holy Redeemer o vivir dentro de los límites de la parroquia. Si no son feligreses registrados, pero desean bautizarse aquí, obtengan una carta de permiso de su parroquia. Papás, vengan a la oficina para programar el bautismo de su hijo.

Presente los siguientes documentos:

  • el certificado de nacimiento del bebé, del condado
  • los certificados de confirmación de los padrinos
  • si los padrinos están casados, traiga una copia de su certificado de matrimonio de la iglesia
  • Comprobante de clases de bautismo de los papás y padrinos.

NO HAY BAUTISMOS DE BEBES NI CLASES DE BAUTISMO DURANTE EL TIEMPO DE CUARESMA.

Clases de bautismo

Si los padres o padrinos no han tomado las clases, ofrecemos las clases mensualmente.

Nuestras clases ahora se ofrecen el segundo domingo (2pm-4pm) y el segundo martes (7pm – 9pm) de cada mes en ambos idiomas, inglés y español. Tienes la opción de elegir entre las dos fechas ofrecidas, siempre y cuando nos indiques en qué fecha te gustaría asistir. Para registrarse, visite la oficina parroquial con los documentos requeridos (enumerados arriba). Todas las inscripciones deben hacerse por lo menos con una semana de anticipación a las clases. Diez Puntos Sobre el Bautismo Que Debes Conocer:

(Del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, números del 1275 al 1284)

1275 La iniciación cristiana se realiza mediante el conjunto de tres sacramentos: el Bautismo, que es el comienzo de la vida nueva; la Confirmación, que es su afianzamiento; y la Eucaristía, que alimenta al discípulo con el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo para ser transformado en Él.

1276 Entre otras citas bíblicas, hay que tener en cuenta ésta de San Mateo donde se manda bautizar a todos, cuantos sea posible: “Id, pues, y haced discípulos a todas las gentes, bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, enseñándoles a guardar todo lo que yo os he mandado” (Mt 28,19-20).

1277 El Bautismo constituye el nacimiento a la vida nueva en Cristo. Según la voluntad del Señor, es necesario para la salvación, como lo es la Iglesia misma, a la que introduce el Bautismo.

1278 El rito esencial del Bautismo consiste en sumergir en el agua al candidato o derramar agua sobre su cabeza, pronunciando la invocación de la Santísima Trinidad, es decir, del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo.

1279 El fruto del Bautismo, o gracia bautismal, es una realidad rica que comprende: el perdón del pecado original y de todos los pecados personales; el nacimiento a la vida nueva, por la cual el hombre es hecho hijo adoptivo del Padre, miembro de Cristo, templo del Espíritu Santo. Por la acción misma del bautismo, el bautizado es incorporado a la Iglesia, Cuerpo de Cristo, y hecho partícipe del sacerdocio de Cristo.

1280 El Bautismo imprime en el alma un signo espiritual indeleble, el carácter, que consagra al bautizado al culto de la religión cristiana. Por razón del carácter, el Bautismo no puede ser reiterado.

1281 Los que padecen la muerte a causa de la fe, los catecúmenos y todos los hombres que, bajo el impulso de la gracia, sin conocer la Iglesia, buscan sinceramente a Dios y se esfuerzan por cumplir su voluntad, pueden salvarse aunque no hayan recibido el Bautismo (cf Lumen Gentium 16).

1282 Desde los tiempos más antiguos, el Bautismo es dado a los niños, porque es una gracia y un don de Dios que no suponen méritos humanos; los niños son bautizados en la fe de la Iglesia. La entrada en la vida cristiana da acceso a la verdadera libertad.

1283 En cuanto a los niños muertos sin bautismo, la liturgia de la Iglesia nos invita a tener confianza en la misericordia divina y a orar por su salvación.

1284 En caso de necesidad (emergencia), toda persona puede bautizar, con tal que tenga la intención de hacer lo que hace la Iglesia, y que derrame agua sobre la cabeza del candidato diciendo: “Yo te bautizo en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo”.
